New Mexico became the 17th state this month to pass a statewide smoke-free law that prohibits smoking in all public places and workplaces, including restaurants and taverns. The new law also specifically allows New Mexico communities to pass more comprehensive local ordinances, a key provision that sets a strong minimum standard but protects local control.
17 states have done this, and states like Minnesota are well on their way. It's time for Wisconsin to join the list of smoke-free states.
